Archiving your Thesis at the Library

When submitting your Thesis, you can optionally submit an additional copy to the library. This way, your Thesis can be used as a reference for others and gives you the opportunity to properly cite your thesis in your future work!

How do I submit a Copy to the Library?

If you would like to submit an additional copy of your thesis to the Campus Library for Computer Science and Mathematics,
you will need the consent form and an additional copy. Please proceed as follows:

  1. Consent form
    1. Download the Consent Form: [German Version] | [English Version]
    2. Send the filled & signed PDF with the subject consent form BA/MA to library@infomath-bib.de
    3. Alternatively, you can print the form, fill & sign it on paper and attach it to your additional physical copy
  2. Additional physical Copy
    1. You can print a free library copy in the library from a USB stick or electronic device.
    2. Alternatively, you can print an additional copy at the Student Printer. However, it will not be free!
  3. Hand in the Additional Copy (and the Consent form if you haven't sent it to the email above) at the library, right along with your "normal" submission documents (Step C in our thesis printing procedure).

FAQ

Is it obligatory to submit a copy to the library?

No! You can submit your Thesis normally following the usual procedure (as outlined  here; see also our  FAQ) without submitting an additional copy to the library.

What advantages do I have from submitting an additional archival copy?

  • You will be able to properly cite your Thesis in your future work
  • The Thesis will be included in the Library online catalogue
  • Other students and researchers will be able to read it
  • Your Thesis will be archived for posteriority

Does it cost anything?

The library generously allows you to print out your additional archival copy for free at their printer. You can do this while at the process of binding and/or submitting your thesis (for which you are usually at the library anyway). Note that this happens at their printer and has nothing to do with the student printer.

Alternatively, you can print out the additional copy at the Student Printer. It will involve the  usual costs of Thesis printing.

Can I submit an additional Library copy if I have already submitted my thesis (a while ago)?

Yes. Just submit the additional copy & the Consent Form as explained above.

I am confused. How many copies should I print / submit?

The additional library copy is not included in the "normal" amount of copies that you are required to print to submit your Thesis. So, if, for instance, the Examination Office requires you to submit 3 copies, and you choose to submit an additional copy for the library, you would print out 3+1=4 copies.

My Thesis contains sensitive information / NDA-protected information / trade secrets. Can I still archive it?

You will have to discuss this with your supervisor / company.
