Use the Student Printer

Here we describe how you can use the print, copy and scan function of the student printer for various operating systems and directly at the device. For all activities you will need to create an account first.

Print from your Device

As the student printer is located in a central public space, printing works a little bit different than you may remember from your home printer. If you click Print on your device, the student printer will not immediately print your document, but your print job will be held in a release queue. Everyone has their own private queue which can hold multiple print jobs at the same time. This way nobody else can access and print your documents. You can even send print jobs from home and then come to university to retrieve them.

Your documents will be held ready for you for up to 7 days. After that they will be deleted automatically and you need to send them again. If you are ready to retrieve your sent documents, you can head over to the student printer, log in and select all print jobs from your print queue that you want printed. This is also called Print Release (or sometimes Pull Printing).

This may sound complicated first, but once you have used it, it is pretty easy. Read below how to get started 😊

Step 1: Add a Print Job to your Queue

You have several options to add a print job to your queue. We have drivers available for all major operating systems. After installation you can use the student printer like any other printer on your device. If you don't want to install a driver or have no compatible device, you can also just upload a PDF via Web Print.

Click on any of the buttons below to see instructions for your operating system.

Use the Machine without a Computer

As the student printer is a multi-function device you can use the machine also to scan and copy documents.

Miscellaneous

What about printing from a thumbdrive?

Unfortunately, this is currently impossible due to technical limitations. We encourage you to use one of the methods above instead. If you do not need many settings and would like to print without installing a driver, we would recommend you to try web print.
